Information is not Knowledge

waverlyflow

There's a movement in graphic design these days—although it's being applied more to the Web than to print—to create a guild of "Information Architects:" people who figure out how best to present "information" to make it understandable. It's an interesting concept and I'm involved with a local group of IAs. But information is not necessarily knowledge. Information can be merely data, like in the phone book, or a list of insurance policy templates.
So I'd like to propose a new discipline, and nominate myself for its first member: Knowledge Artists. People deeply in love with the idea of ideas, passionate about communication, and ga ga over the task of bringing beauty and order to the presentation of scholastic Knowledge.
